Remember the Patience of Job

What is patience?

According to Dictionary.com, patience is “the quality of being patient; the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain without complaint, loss of temper, or irritation.”

That is a high standard—and yet, this is the very quality we see in the life of Job.

The Bible tells us that Job was a patient man. In fact, God Himself testified of him, saying there was none like him in all the earth. What a statement! Yet even with such a testimony, Job still suffered deeply.

And what about his friends?

These were the kind of people who praise you when you are doing well—but when you are down, they seem ready to walk all over you. Instead of lifting Job up, they were quick to point out what they thought were his faults. Perhaps you have known people like that?

There is an old saying: “There is nothing like seeing a good man brought low.” Sadly, some seem to wait for that very moment.

Patience, however, is not something you can order like a pizza. It does not come instantly. It is learned, often through trials. For many, controlling emotions can be difficult—it can become an Achilles’ heel, leaving us vulnerable when pressure comes.

Yet the Scriptures give us hope.

Like Job, we are called to trust God’s timing. His promises never fail. As it is written, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” And again, “God is not a man, that He should lie.”

With God, all things are possible.

So, if you are in a season of waiting, hold on. Patience is not weakness—it is strength under control. And in due time, God will bring His purpose to pass.
