Imitation or Real -- Poem
I saw the roses bright and fair,
So full of beauty, rich and rare,
I gladly took them, full of cheer,
Not knowing truth was not so near.
They looked so real, so fresh, so fine,
A perfect gift—my heart’s design,
But something hidden, I could not see,
They held no life, no purity.
Placed in a vase, yet no need for care,
No water poured, no fragrance there,
They would not fade, nor bend, nor fall,
For they were never alive at all.
Imitation—so close, yet far from true,
A lifeless form in a lovely view,
A copy made to look just right,
But empty still of living light.
And is it not the same today?
Many walk a religious way,
Trusting something that seems so real,
Yet never knowing what God can feel.
For Christ did not bring form or show,
But life within, His love to know,
Not empty words, nor deeds alone,
But hearts redeemed before His throne.
Oh soul, take heed, don’t be deceived,
By something false you have believed,
For time will tell, and truth reveal,
Is it imitation—or is it real?
Come to the cross where Jesus died,
Where love and mercy still abide,
For only their true life is found,
Where grace and truth forever abound.
