Psalm 73 – A Poem

I looked upon the world one day,
And saw the wicked on their way;
With wealth and pride they seemed to stand,
While troubles filled the righteous land.

Their homes were full, their tables spread,
No tears appeared, no fears they fed;
I wondered why they prospered so,
While those who loved God walked in woe.

My feet, they almost slipped aside,
As envy filled my heart with pride;
I questioned if my faith was vain,
And why I bore such grief and pain.

Then to God’s house I turned to pray,
And there the darkness fled away;
The Lord revealed what eyes can’t see,
The end of all eternity.

The riches of this world will fade,
Like morning dew or passing shade;
The glory sinners boast today,
Tomorrow’s wind may sweep away.

Then I repented of my sight,
For I had judged by earthly light;
The Lord had held me all along,
And kept me safe, and kept me strong.

Whom have I, Lord, in heaven above?
But You, my God, my joy, my love;
And on this earth no treasure bright,
Can match Your glory and Your light.

My flesh may fail, my heart grow weak,
Yet You are all I’ll ever seek;
My strength, my portion, ever true,
My faithful God, I cling to You.

The world may chase its gold and fame,
Yet all must vanish like a flame;
But those who trust the Lord shall see,
A treasure for eternity.

So let me walk the narrow way,
And trust my Saviour day by day;
For this one truth my heart has trod:

It is always good to draw near to God.
