Psalm 79
The city lay broken, the walls torn down,
God’s people wept with a heavy frown.
The Temple once filled with praises above,
Now echoed with sorrow, yet still with His love.
“How long, O Lord?” was their earnest cry,
As tears of repentance fell from each eye.
Remember not sins of the days gone by,
But send forth Thy mercy from Heaven on high.
“Help us, O God of salvation,” they prayed,
For only in Thee can true hope be laid.
Forgive and deliver for Thy holy name,
Though nations may mock, Thou changest the same.
The Shepherd still watches the sheep of His fold,
His mercies are faithful, His promises sure.
Though storms may surround and darkness may reign,
The Lord of all comfort forever remains.
And we, Thy people, will lift up our voice,
In sorrow and trials we’ll still rejoice.
From generation to generation we’ll sing,
Of Jesus our Saviour, our Lord and our King.
For ruins may crumble and kingdoms may fall,
But God’s endless mercy is greater than all.
So help us, dear Father, and keep us in Thee,
And we’ll praise Thee forever through eternity.
“Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Thy name.” – Psalm 79:9
