Psalm 67 Explained
Psalm 67 is a beautiful psalm of blessing, worship, and God’s salvation reaching all nations. It reminds us that God’s blessings are not meant to stop with us but to flow through us so that the whole world may know Him.
Verse 1–2: A Prayer for God’s Blessing
“God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us.”
The psalm begins with a prayer asking for God’s mercy and blessing. The phrase “cause His face to shine upon us” speaks of God’s favour, presence, and approval.
But notice the purpose:
“That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.”
God blesses His people so that others may come to know Him. The blessing is not just for personal comfort but for God’s glory among the nations.
Verse 3–5: A Call for All Peoples to Praise God
“Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.”
This phrase is repeated, showing the desire that everyone, everywhere, would worship the Lord.
The psalmist looks forward to a day when all nations will rejoice because God judges with righteousness and leads people in truth and justice.
God is not only the God of Israel; He is the God of all nations.
Verse 6–7: God’s Blessing Produces Fruitfulness
“Then shall the earth yield her increase.”
When God blesses His people, there is fruitfulness and provision. The harvest becomes a reminder of God’s goodness and faithfulness.
The psalm ends:
“God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.”
The ultimate goal is that people everywhere would honour, respect, and worship the Lord.
