Psalm 66 – Through Fire and Water
Shout unto God with joyful voice,
Let all the earth in Him rejoice;
Sing of His glory, praise His name,
For evermore He’s still the same.
Come see the wonders He has done,
The mighty victories He has won;
He rules the nations from above,
With sovereign power and endless love.
He split the sea and made a way,
For trembling hearts that feared that day;
Upon dry ground His people trod,
Protected by the hand of God.
Yet not all roads are bright and fair,
Some lead through trials, pain, and care;
The furnace burns, the waters rise,
And tears may fill a pilgrim’s eyes.
Through fire and water we may go,
Through storms that only Heaven knows;
Yet in the darkest, hardest place,
We still are held by saving grace.
The gold is purified by flame,
The trial refines the Saviour’s name;
For every burden, every tear,
The Lord Himself is ever near.
Then comes the dawn, the storm is past,
The faithful God has won at last;
He leads His children by His hand,
Into a rich and fruitful land.
“Come hear,” the grateful pilgrim cries,
“How God has heard my prayers and sighs;
I called on Him in deep despair,
And found my loving Father there.”
His mercy never turns away,
His faithfulness is new each day;
His ears are open to our plea,
His grace is full and rich and free.
So let our songs ascend above,
In thankful praise for endless love;
For through the fire, through waters deep,
The Lord His precious saints will keep.
And when our earthly race is done,
And heaven’s glorious shore is won,
We’ll praise the Lamb eternally,
Who heard our prayer and set us free.
Psalm 66
“We went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.” (Psalm 66:12)
