Poem on Psalm 26

Examine me, O Lord, I pray,
Search every thought that walks my way,
Not that I boast of sinless ground,
But that in truth my heart be found.

I walk not with the false and vain,
Nor sit where evil makes its gain,
For paths we choose will shape our soul,
And lead us far—or make us whole.

Your lovingkindness fills my sight,
Your truth becomes my guiding light,
And in Your ways I long to stand,
Kept steady by Your mighty hand.

I wash my hands, not clean by might,
But seeking You in what is right,
Around Your altar I will raise
A thankful voice in songs of praise.

O Lord, I love Your dwelling place,
The shining glory of Your face,
For where You are, my heart will be,
Drawn by Your love that rescued me.

Let not my end with sinners fall,
Nor judgment take me with them all,
For wicked hands and hearts of greed
Shall reap the fruit of every deed.

But as for me, I choose Your way,
To walk in truth from day to day,
Redeem me, Lord, and grant me grace,
To stand secure in Your embrace.

My feet upon firm ground shall stay,
You are my strength, my guide, my way,
And in the gathered saints I’ll raise
My voice again in endless praise.
