Poem on David's Prayer

From the Cave to the Song

A Poem Inspired by Psalm 57

In shadows deep where sorrow lay,
And fear would whisper night and day,
A weary soul bowed low in pain,
While tears fell softly like the rain.

Within the cave where darkness stood,
And danger roamed through stone and wood,
David cried unto the Lord above,
Still trusting in redeeming love.

“O Lord, be merciful to me,
My shelter through this storm shall be,
Beneath Thy wings I safely hide,
For Thou art ever by my side.”

The enemy with cruel intent,
Like lions through the darkness went,
Their words like arrows sharp and strong,
Their hatred cruel, their hearts so wrong.

And yet within that lonely cave,
A song of faith the Lord still gave,
For praise arose where fear had been,
And hope broke through the night unseen.

“My heart is steadfast, Lord,” he cried,
“Though storms of life around me ride,
I still shall sing, I still shall stand,
For all my days are in Thy hand.”

How many souls today still hide,
With silent wounds they keep inside,
Pressed down by burdens none can see,
Longing once more for victory.

Some fight through grief and troubled minds,
Some seek a peace they cannot find,
Some walk through valleys dark with pain,
And wonder if the sun will shine again.

But Psalm Fifty-Seven still declares,
The Lord still hears His children’s prayers,
The cave will never always stay,
For God still rolls the stones away.

The night may seem so long and cold,
Yet still the Shepherd guards His fold,
And those who trust the Lord above,
Are covered by eternal love.

So when life’s caves around you fall,
And fear like thunder shakes your wall,
Lift up your eyes, let faith arise,
For God still reigns beyond the skies.

The cave is not your final song,
The Lord will help you to stand strong,
And from the depths your voice shall raise,
A testimony filled with praise.

For darkest nights cannot destroy,
The soul that still has heaven’s joy,
And through the storm this truth belongs:
God turns our caves into our songs.
