Psalm 71 — A Poem
The God Who Carried Me
O Lord, my Rock, my hiding place,
I’ve walked so long within Your grace;
Through youthful days and ageing years,
You’ve been my strength through joys and tears.
When I was young and scarcely knew
The many things that You would do,
Your hand was there to guide my way,
To lead and keep me day by day.
Through stormy nights and trials deep,
You watched my soul and did not sleep;
When burdens pressed and fears would rise,
I found my help in heaven’s skies.
Now silver hairs may crown my head,
And slower steps may lie ahead,
Yet still my heart can gladly sing,
For You remain my faithful King.
The strength of youth may fade away,
But You are strong from day to day;
Your loving arms still hold me near,
And calm the shadows of each fear.
O let me tell the ones to come
Of all the mighty things You’ve done;
Your mercy, goodness, love, and care,
Your faithful hand that’s always there.
For every mountain You have moved,
And every promise You have proved,
Becomes a story I can share
Of how You answered every prayer.
Who is like You, O Lord above?
So rich in mercy, grace, and love;
No earthly treasure can compare
With knowing You are always there.
And when my journey here is done,
And life’s long race at last is run,
I’ll praise the God who carried me
From birth through all eternity.
For Psalm 71 declares so clear,
The Lord is faithful year by year;
And those who trust His mighty hand,
Shall safely reach the Promised Land.
