Here’s a children’s-style story about your robotic lawnmower:
Robo the Lawnmower and the Job Market
Robo the robotic lawnmower rolled across the garden with a grumble.
“Cut, cut, cut,” he sighed as he trimmed the grass.
The next morning, he was back out again.
“Cut, cut, cut.”
Robo shook his little antenna.
“This is a never-ending story! I cut the grass yesterday, and now I have to cut it again today. If only I could get a real job!”
As he trimmed another patch of grass, he began dreaming.
“Maybe I could be a pilot.”
He zoomed around the garden.
“Or maybe a firefighter!”
He imagined spraying water on a burning building.
“Perhaps I could even become a police robot!”
The more he thought about it, the more unhappy he became.
Finally, one sunny afternoon, Robo made up his mind.
“I’m leaving the garden. I’m going to the Job Market!”
Off he rolled down the path, through the gate, and into Robot Town.
When he arrived, he could hardly believe his eyes.
The place was packed!
There were cleaning robots.
There were delivery robots.
There were cooking robots.
There were factory robots.
There were even singing robots carrying microphones.
Hundreds of shiny robots stood in long queues waiting for work.
Robo joined the line.
After a long wait, he reached the front desk.
A large silver robot sat behind a computer.
“Name?” asked the robot.
“Robo the Lawnmower.”
“Skills?”
“I cut grass.”
The robot typed for a moment.
Then he frowned.
“Hmm.”
“What does that mean?” asked Robo nervously.
“There are already thousands of lawnmowers looking for work.”
Robo’s wheels trembled.
“What happens if they don’t get any work?”
The silver robot looked up.
“Well, eventually they are scrapped and recycled.”
“Oh dear!” cried Robo.
“That’s not a good story!”
He looked around at all the robots standing in line.
Some looked worried.
Some looked scared.
Some looked tired.
Robo slowly rolled outside and sat beside a tree.
Just then, an old gardener walked past.
He smiled when he saw Robo.
“There you are! I’ve been looking everywhere.”
“You know me?” asked Robo.
“Of course,” said the gardener. “You’re the little lawnmower that keeps my garden beautiful.”
“But I only cut grass.”
The gardener laughed.
“Only cut grass? Because of you, children can play safely. Flowers have room to grow. The garden looks tidy and welcoming.”
Robo had never thought of that before.
The gardener continued,
“Not every job has to be exciting. Sometimes the most important jobs are the ones that quietly help others.”
Robo looked down at his wheels.
Maybe cutting grass wasn’t such a bad job after all.
The next morning, Robo returned to the garden.
The grass had grown again.
“Cut, cut, cut,” he said.
But this time he was smiling.
And as he worked, he noticed butterflies dancing among the flowers and children laughing nearby.
Perhaps his job mattered more than he realized.
And from that day on, whenever Robo started to complain, he remembered the crowded Job Market and the gardener’s words:
“Be thankful for the work the Creator has given you, for every good task has a purpose.”
