Matthew Chapter 6 vers 9-13 Lords Prayer

Forgive to be Forgiven True Story

Unforgiveness

While I was before the Lord in my quiet time, one word came strongly to mind: unforgiveness.

People often say that what the world needs is love. Yet sadly, any nation—or any heart—ruled by an unforgiving spirit cannot truly know love.

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught us to say:
“Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
Jesus Himself made it clear: if we do not forgive others, we will not be forgiven. A child of God who refuses to forgive cuts themselves off from God’s forgiveness.

A True Story

There was a Christian taxi driver who was helping to look after a taxi depot. One day, a man with links to paramilitary groups came in causing trouble. Wanting to keep the peace, the taxi driver offered to take the man home.

As they drove out of the depot, the man suddenly struck the taxi driver in the face. When they passed a police station, the driver turned in and reported the assault—with the attacker still in the car. The police warned him that this man had only recently been released from prison and advised him to get a solicitor.

Some time later, a third party contacted the taxi driver with a threat:
If he didn’t drop the charge, they would come after his family.

The driver was torn. Should he pursue justice, or should he let it go? Not knowing what to do, George decided to seek counsel from his pastor, trusting that a wise man of God would give him guidance.

Unexpected Wisdom

When George met his pastor, the pastor warmly welcomed him and began praising him for the good work he had been doing. But as the conversation continued, George never got the chance to explain why he had come.

Just as the pastor finished speaking, he suddenly said:
“George, bury the hatchet.”

George replied, “Where?”
The pastor smiled and said, “Not in the skull.”

That was it. George had his answer.

The Cost of Forgiveness

The attacker had damaged the taxi seat, and George had suffered a blow to the jaw. Soon after, the taxi depot closed. George was left out of work, with a broken car seat and no money.

Yet George counted it a small price to pay.

As Easter approached, the Lord reminded him that forgiveness cost Jesus far more. Christ went to the cross and prayed for those who nailed Him there.

Later, George was told that the paramilitary group would “deal with” the man who assaulted him. But George said no. He had already buried the hatchet. He chose forgiveness.

A Question for Us All

Brothers and sisters, what price are we willing to pay to forgive someone who has hurt us?
How far are we willing to go to forgive those who have deeply wounded us?

Jesus went all the way to Calvary and asked the Father to forgive His enemies.

Let us remember:
God knows.God loves.God cares.

GOD IS A GOOD GOD

GOD KNOWS GOD LOVES GOD CARES
