“Fret Not Thyself”

A Poem from Psalm 37

When evil men rise mighty and tall,
And it seems the righteous surely fall,
When pride walks high through every land,
Still God holds all things in His hand.

Do not let your spirit burn,
For every tide one day must turn,
The grass that grows so bright today,
Tomorrow fades and falls away.

Trust in the Lord through storm and night,
Walk by faith and not by sight,
Though tears may fall and burdens press,
God still remembers in distress.

Commit your pathway to the King,
Lay down every worrying thing,
The Lord who formed both earth and sea,
Still watches over faithfully.

Rest in God and wait awhile,
Though heaven seems to hide its smile,
Behind the silence God still moves,
His perfect wisdom always proves.

The meek who bow before the Lord,
Shall find great treasure as reward,
Not proud in heart nor filled with pride,
But safely walking by His side.

David said with age-grown grace,
“I’ve seen God’s mercy face to face,
The righteous never stand alone,
For heaven still protects its own.”

So fret not when the wicked reign,
Their glory shall not long remain,
But those who trust God day by day,
Shall find His peace along the way.

For kingdoms fade and riches rust,
But God is faithful, true, and just,
And those who place their hope above,
Shall rest forever in His love.
