Story Losing Jesus

Here is an old blog I done some time ago LOSING JESUS
Losing Jesus
We all know the stories—the lost coin, the lost sheep, and the son who went into the far country. And in that story, the father said, “My son was lost, and is found.”
But here is another thought… another angle.
How is it possible for a parent to lose a child—especially on a journey they had taken so many times before?
Even today, with all our technology, children can still go missing. And in the days of The Gospel of Luke, there was none of that.
It happened during the Feast of the Passover. Every year, Mary and Joseph went up to Jerusalem. There was never any trouble. Why would there be? This was Jesus—the twelve-year-old boy. Surely Heaven was watching over Him. Surely the smile of God rested upon His Son.
And yet… they lost Him.
If I am honest, this is a thought that came to me in prayer. I had never seen it this way before either.
The truth is, the fault did not lie in danger—it lay in routine.
Year after year, they made the same journey. Year after year, Jesus was with them. He was obedient, faithful, always present. They never had to question where He was.
So, this time… they assumed.
They supposed Him to be in their company.
On the journey home from Jerusalem, they may even have spoken about Him—talked about Him—but He was not with them.
They had become so used to His presence; they no longer checked for it.
They had lost Jesus… and did not even know it.
For three days, they searched in sorrow. The joy of the temple was gone. Their hearts were heavy.
I can almost hear Mary weeping:
“Joseph… will God ever forgive us? What if something has happened to Him? I cannot live without Jesus…”
And Joseph replying:
“Mary… we must go back. We must look again in the places we have been. Perhaps He is still there, waiting for us.”
And there is the message for us.
Have you ever realised—you have lost out with God?
You once walked close with Him. You spent time in His presence. But now, like Mary and Joseph, you are busy with the journey… busy with religion… busy with duties…
Too busy to notice—He is no longer walking with you.
Like Samson, you may not even realise the Lord has departed.
You can become cold… or critical… or careless… or prayerless.
But here is the hope.
It took three days—but they found Him.
God’s Word says:
“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”
And again:
“After three days, I will revive thee,” saith the Lord.
So if you have lost that closeness…
Go back.
Go back to where you last knew His presence.
Go back to Calvary—where God poured out His love for you.
As the old chorus says:
Lord, take me back to Calvary,
Take these chains and set me free,
I cannot stay away any longer,
Lord, take me back to Calvary.
Do not stay away.
Return to Him.
He is waiting.
Yours in Christ,
George
