Mother, Where Did You Go?

A little girl sits by the window light,
Waiting for footsteps every night.
Her teddy close, her heart so sore,
Listening softly beside the door.

“Mother, where did you go?” she cries,
With silent tears in weary eyes.
“The house feels cold, the days so long,
Without your hug, without your song.”

She sees the mothers in the street,
Holding little hands so sweet.
And deep inside her young heart breaks,
With every breath the child still takes.

She misses bedtime stories told,
The loving arms that used to hold.
The laughter dancing through the air,
The way her mother brushed her hair.

At school she smiles and tries to hide,
The aching sadness locked inside.
For children often hide their pain,
Like tiny flowers beneath the rain.

She wonders softly every day,
“Did I do wrong? Why go away?”
But no child should bear such blame,
For love and loss are not the same.

And though the nights seem dark and long,
God still hears the orphaned song.
He sees the tears no one can see,
And holds the child so tenderly.

For broken hearts still matter there,
To a loving God who truly cares.
And though her mother may be gone,
God’s gentle love still carries on.

So if you hear a young child cry,
Do not simply pass them by.
For every child deserves to know,
They’re loved far more than words can show.
