KING David PRAYER

Psalm 10 is a powerful cry from the heart, and to understand why David speaks the way he does, we need to look at the real-life pressure and injustice he was facing.

📖 Background to Psalm 10

Psalm 10 is closely linked to Psalm 9—in fact, in the original Hebrew, they may have been one continuous psalm. While Psalm 9 praises God for justice, Psalm 10 wrestles with a painful question:

👉 “Why does it look like the wicked are getting away with everything?”

David is not writing from comfort—he is writing from distress, confusion, and observation of evil around him.

⚔️ The Situation David Was Facing

David lived in a time of:

  • Violent men rising in power
  • The poor and helpless being oppressed
  • Corrupt leaders abusing authority
  • People acting as if God does not see or care

He may have been:

  • Running from King Saul, who unjustly hunted him
  • Surrounded by enemies who lied, plotted, and used power wrongly
  • Watching innocent people suffer while evil men prosper

So this psalm is not theory—it is experience.

😔 Why David Said What He Did

1. He felt like God was distant

“Why standest thou afar off, O Lord?”

David is honest—he feels like God is far away.

Not because God actually is, but because:

  • Evil seems unchecked
  • Justice seems delayed
  • Suffering feels ignored

👉 This is the cry of many believers: “God, where are You?”

2. He saw the pride of the wicked

David describes the wicked as:

  • Boastful
  • Proud
  • Greedy
  • Violent

They say in their hearts:

“God has forgotten… He will never see it.”

👉 In other words, they live as if God does not exist.

3. He saw the helpless being crushed

David paints a vivid picture:

  • The wicked lurk like predators
  • They trap the poor
  • They take advantage of the weak

This deeply troubled him because:
👉 God is a God of justice
👉 Yet injustice seemed to be winning

4. He struggled—but still believed

Even though David questioned, he did not lose faith.

Toward the end of Psalm 10, his tone changes:

  • He calls on God to act
  • He declares that God does see
  • He affirms that God defends the fatherless and oppressed

👉 This shows us something powerful:

Faith is not pretending everything is fine—
faith is crying out to God when it isn’t.

🔥 The Deeper Meaning

Psalm 10 teaches us:

  • God allows us to be honest with Him
  • Evil may appear to prosper—but not forever
  • God sees what others do not
  • Justice may be delayed—but it is never denied

 In Simple Terms

David said what he did because:

  • He was hurting
  • He was confused by injustice
  • He saw evil rising
  • But he still trusted God would act
