Psalm Chapter 10 – “When God Feels Far Away”

Psalm Chapter 10 – “When God Feels Far Away”

Beloved, there are moments in life when heaven feels silent.

Times when you look around and say,
“Lord… where are You?”

That is exactly where David was when he wrote Psalm 10.

This was not written in a palace…
this was not written in comfort…
this was written in the wilderness of trouble.

Most believe David was either:

  • Running for his life from King Saul, hiding in caves, hunted like an animal,
    or
  • Living through a season where wicked men had power, and the innocent were suffering around him.

David was a man chosen by God…
yet he found himself surrounded by injustice.

And out of that place, he cried:

“Lord, why do You stand afar off?”

Now listen—David did not say God was far away…
he said it felt like God was far away.

There’s a difference.

Because sometimes your situation will preach louder than your faith.
Sometimes what you see will try to silence what you believe.

David looked around and saw the wicked prospering.

He saw proud men boasting…
men who said in their hearts, “God does not see.”
Men who crushed the poor, trapped the helpless, and walked away untouched.

And David could not understand it.

Have you ever been there?

Where the wrong people are winning…
and the right people are weeping?

Where evil seems to rise…
and righteousness seems to suffer?

David was not speaking religion—
he was speaking reality.

But here is what I love about David:

He did not run from God in confusion—
he ran to God with his confusion.

He poured it out.

He said, “Lord, they think You don’t see!”
“They think You have forgotten!”

And yet—even in the middle of his questions—faith was still alive.

Because something begins to change in this Psalm.

David lifts his eyes from what he sees…
to what he knows.

He says, “But You have seen it.”

Oh, that will preach!

The wicked say, “God does not see”…
but David says, “God, You have seen it all.”

Every tear.
Every injustice.
Every hidden act done in darkness.

God sees.

And then David cries out:

“Arise, O Lord!”

In other words:
“God, step into this situation!”
“God, reveal Your justice!”
“God, don’t let evil have the final word!”

And church, here is the lesson for us:

Just because God is silent…
does not mean God is absent.

Just because judgment is delayed…
does not mean it is denied.

David teaches us that it is alright to ask God “why”…
as long as you don’t stop trusting Him.

He teaches us that faith is not the absence of questions—
faith is bringing your questions to God.

And in the end, David declares something powerful:

“The Lord is King forever.”

Not the wicked.
Not the oppressor.
Not the proud.

The Lord is King.

So what can we learn from David’s cry?

We learn to be honest with God.
We learn that God sees what others miss.
We learn that justice belongs to the Lord.
And we learn to keep praying—even when heaven feels quiet.

Because the same God David cried to…
is the same God who still hears today.

So if you feel like God is far away…

Cry out.

If you see injustice…

Pray.

If your heart is heavy…

Trust.

Because the God who seemed silent to David…
was still working behind the scenes.

And He is still working for you.

Amen. 🙏
