Psalm 48 — Great Is the Lord

A Rhyming Poem for George

Great is the Lord upon the throne,
The King of kings, God’s Holy One.
Above the earth His glory shines,
His truth and mercy through all time.

Upon Mount Zion strong and fair,
God’s loving presence lingers there.
Not built by stone nor guarded wall,
But by the Lord who rules it all.

Though mighty kings may rise in pride,
And gather armies far and wide,
Before the power of God Most High,
Their strength shall fade, their courage die.

For God’s own hand protects His own,
His faithful love is fully shown.
A fortress strong, a shield so sure,
His promises shall still endure.

The nations shake, the world may fear,
Yet God’s own people rest Him near.
Through stormy nights and troubled days,
He leads His children by His grace.

Within His temple hearts shall sing,
And praise the everlasting King.
His righteousness fills all the land,
Creation rests within His hand.

Tell every child, let all proclaim,
The power and wonder of His name.
From age to age His truth shall stand,
Guided forever by His hand.

For this our God shall ever be,
Our hope through all eternity.
Through life, through death, come joy or pain,
The Lord forevermore shall reign.
