Poem on Psalm 49

Psalm 49 — “Riches Fade”

The rich may boast of gold and gain,
Of mighty towers and lands they claim,
Yet death still calls both great and small,
For earthly wealth cannot save all.

No silver coin, no treasure chest,
Can buy the soul eternal rest,
No king can bribe the hand of time,
Nor escape the grave through worldly climb.

The proud may shine for fleeting days,
Applauded loud with endless praise,
Yet all their glory fades away,
Like grass beneath the summer ray.

Men build their houses grand and high,
As though on earth they’ll never die,
But riches stay when breath has flown,
And others take what they once owned.

Yet shining through this solemn psalm,
There comes to hearts a holy calm,
“For God redeems the soul,” we read,
The Lord supplies our deepest need.

What gold could never, ever do,
God’s mercy brings forever true,
Through grace He lifts the fallen soul,
And makes the wounded spirit whole.

So trust not riches made of dust,
But place in God your hope and trust,
For treasures here will fade away,
But God’s great love will always stay.

The wise seek not earth’s passing fame,
But call upon the Saviour’s name,
For those who walk the narrow way,
Shall live with God beyond the grave.
