Psalm 59 – My Fortress in the Night

The shadows gathered round my door,
Their angry voices rose once more;
The night was dark, the road was long,
Yet God became my strength and song.

Though enemies watched through the night,
And fear sought hard to dim the light,
I lifted up my heart in prayer,
For I knew my Father heard me there.

The wicked prowled like dogs around,
Their threats and insults did abound;
Yet higher still than all their cry,
The Lord of Hosts was standing by.

When trouble knocked upon my gate,
And danger seemed to seal my fate,
The Rock of Ages did remain,
Unmoved by sorrow, fear, or pain.

O God, my Fortress strong and sure,
Your promises forever endure;
Though all around may shake and fall,
Your mighty hand upholds it all.

The night may seem so cold and deep,
And weary eyes may long for sleep;
But morning waits beyond the gloom,
And mercy’s flowers begin to bloom.

For every tear that falls unseen,
For every trial that comes between,
The Lord remembers all His own,
And calls His children to His throne.

So I will sing though storms arise,
And lift my praise unto the skies;
For God is faithful, just, and true,
And His grace daily carries through.

My enemies may come and go,
Like passing winds that briefly blow;
But God remains my hiding place,
My shield, my strength, my saving grace.

Therefore I’ll trust Him day and night,
And walk by faith and not by sight;
For when the morning sun I see,
I’ll praise the One who rescued me.

“But I will sing of Thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of Thy mercy in the morning.” — Psalm 59:16
