The Three Widows
Sermon: “When Heaven Sees a Widow”
My friend… there are people this world overlooks— but Heaven never does.
In the eyes of society, a widow was often forgotten…
no protection… no provision… no voice.
But I want you to see something today—
God builds sermons out of the overlooked.
God writes testimonies through the broken.
God reveals His glory through those the world passes by.
Let me tell you about three widows… three lives… and one faithful God.
The Widow in Need
There she stands—empty cupboard, empty future, empty strength.
And into that emptiness walks Elijah.
He asks for food…
when she has nothing left to give.
Now that doesn’t make sense, does it?
But God will sometimes ask you for what feels like your last…
just to prove He is your source.
She could have said no.
She could have held on.
But instead—she obeyed.
And the moment she let go…
God stepped in.
The jar did not run dry.
The oil did not fail.
Listen carefully:
When you trust God in your lack, He will meet you in your need.
The Widow Before the Judge
Now we move from poverty… to pressure.
This widow wasn’t hungry—
she was wronged.
No one to defend her.
No one to speak for her.
Just a judge who did not care.
But she had something powerful—
she had persistence.
She kept knocking.
She kept asking.
She kept showing up.
And even an unjust judge said,
“This woman will not leave me alone—I will answer her!”
Jesus said this to show us something:
If persistence moves an unjust man…
how much more will it move a righteous God?
Some of you have been praying a long time…
and nothing seems to change.
But hear this:
Delay is not denial. Silence is not absence. God hears every cry.
Do not give up.
Do not grow weary.
Because faith that keeps knocking…
will one day see the door open.
The Widow in the Temple
Now we come to a different kind of widow.
Her name was Anna.
She wasn’t chasing provision.
She wasn’t fighting for justice.
She had found something greater—
the presence of God.
Day and night… she stayed.
Praying. Fasting. Worshipping.
People passed by… but she remained.
Years passed by… but she remained.
And one day…
a child was brought into the temple.
Most saw just a baby.
But Anna saw the promise.
She recognised
Jesus Christ.
Why?
Because those who stay in God’s presence
begin to see what others miss.
She waited… and she saw.
Now Hear This Clearly
Three widows.
- One trusted God with her last meal
- One trusted God with her long battle
- One trusted God with her whole life
And not one of them was forgotten.
So let me ask you—
Are you in a place of lack?
Are you in a place of struggle?
Or are you in a season of waiting?
Wherever you are…
God sees you. God hears you. God knows you.
He is still the God who fills empty jars.
He is still the God who answers persistent prayer.
He is still the God who reveals Himself to those who seek Him.
Closing Call
Do not let your situation define your faith.
Be like the widow—
Give when it’s hard.
Pray when it’s silent.
Wait when it’s long.
And you will discover this truth:
God is a good God.God knows.God loves.And God cares.
GOD IS A GOOD GOD
GOD KNOWS GOD LOVES GOD CARES
